LEINSTER SFC QUARTER-FINAL Killoe Young Emmets 2-13 Navan O'Mahony's 0-8:Killoe Young Emmets turned on the style to score a surprisingly easy win over Navan O'Mahony's in the Leinster senior club quarter-final clash at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park yesterday.
Two goals in the early stages of the second half proved to be the decisive scores as the impressive Longford champions advanced to meet Portlaoise in the semi-final.
Killoe were slow to settle but they eventually got on top to hold a well-deserved 0-7 to 0-4 lead at the break with their scores coming from six different players – Michael Quinn (45), Sean McCormack (free and play), Eugene Clarke, Mark Hughes and brothers Ronan and Denis McGoldrick.
Jake Regan (two), Paddy Smyth and Stephen Bray replied for O’Mahony’s who were still in contention before Young Emmets made a terrific start to the second half with a fisted goal from powerful midfielder Simon Kiernan and the Killoe side found the back of the net again moments later.
All-Star nominee Michael Quinn capitalised on a mistake by a Navan defender to intercept a wayward pass and raced through unchallenged to fire the ball into the back of the net past the stranded O’Mahony’s goalkeeper Marcus Brennan.
Three minutes into the third quarter the Meath champions were trailing by 2-7 to 0-4 and and they fell further behind moments later when Ronan McGoldrick landed a fine point for rampant Killoe.
Points from Jack Regan (a 45) and Stephen Bray reduced the deficit but Killoe kicked on again with five late points to seal the win.
