SCOTTISH LEAQGUE CUP SEMI-FINAL/Rangers 2 St Johnstone 0:STEVEN DAVIS claimed his third goal in as many games as Rangers sealed their place in the League Cup final against St Mirren.
The midfielder set the ball rolling at Hampden, before Lee McCulloch doubled the lead to set up a meeting with St Mirren at the same venue.
This was the fifth domestic cup meeting between the two sides in six years and Rangers came out on top again after winning three of those previous clashes.
Nacho Novo saw an early effort cleared off the line before Northern Ireland international Davis broke the deadlock after 26 minutes. Novo who teed up the shot for Davis to rifle high into the empty net at the back post and continue his impressive recent goalscoring form.
Rangers doubled their lead 12 minutes later. Steven Whittaker played the pass back to McCulloch and the midfielder unleashed a ferocious shot from just outside the box which took a slight deflection on the way to the net.
Steven Naismith saw a penalty effort saved after 70 minutes by goalkeeper Graeme Smith.
