Rangers proved they are finally becoming a force to be reckoned with in Europe after this astonishing victory over PSV Eindhoven which puts them top of Group F. PSV, with one point from four games, are out of contention.

Lorenzo Amoruso headed Rangers in front after 18 minutes and Michael Mols deservedly made it 2-0 seven minutes before half-time with another headed effort.

Ruud van Nistelrooy earned and scored a penalty for PSV right on half-time to give the Dutch side hope. But Rangers made certain of their win thanks to further goals from Neil McCann and Mols.

Rangers dominated the first half and should have led by more than 21 at the interval. PSV goalkeeper Ivica Kralj produced three superb saves to deny Rangers and Van Nistelrooy gave PSV a lifeline on the stroke of half-time when he was upended by Craig Moore and Italian referee Perluigi Collina had no hesitation in awarding the penalty.

Rangers restored their two-goal advantage in the 56th minute in slightly dubious circumstances. Giovanni Van Bronckhorst rattled in a free kick that Kralj couldn't hold. However, he was able to block the rebound from Rod Wallace. But the ball broke behind the goalkeeper and McCann tucked it away to make it 3-1. Mols, breaking clear, then added a fourth after 79 minutes.
