Limerick SFC Semi-finals/Drom-Broadford 1-12 Monaleen 1-7/Ballylanders 0-17 Adare 1-6:It is to be a west v south senior football final in Limerick after recent past winners Drom-Broadford and Ballylanders put paid to the ambitions of Monaleen and Adare at Kilmallock yesterday.
County star Michael Reidy led the charge for Drom-Broadford in their deserved win over lone city representatives Monaleen.
The losers were first off the blocks with a Michael Crowley point, but the west Limerick side forged ahead through Reidy (0-2) and Michael Noonan.
Reidy rifled the ball past goalkeeper Brian Berkery, and Monaleen, now trailing with a solitary point in reply to 1-5, could not have fancied their prospects.
Their former Kerry star Crowley reignited their challenge, however, first with a point and then with a goal from the penalty spot.
And so, with the margin reduced to just two scores, the pressure was back on Drom-Broadford. Once more, Reidy provided further breathing space with a brace, and Pat Donnelly soon had them sitting comfortably at 1-8 to 1-3 after 48 minutes.
Though John O'Brien and Crowley again narrowed the gap, Drom always seemed to have that little in reserve, and John O'Kelly, Reidy and Noonan consolidated their position.
SCORERS: Drom-Broadford - M Reidy 1-6; M Noonan, P Donnelly 0-2 each; J O'Kelly, M O'Sullivan 0-1 each. Monaleen - M Crowley 1-4; J O'Brien 0-2; J Marsh 0-1.
Adare's hopes of a championship double - their hurlers meet Croom in the final next Sunday afternoon - were dashed by a lively Ballylanders, who had matters much their own way after the change of ends, the sides having finished the first half level, 0-6 to 1-3.
Ballylanders led 0-4 to 0-2 after the first quarter, but Liam Costelloe, set up by David Lavin, claimed the game's only goal to turn the tide in favour of Adare.
It was a much different story on the change of ends, however, and Mike Mansell set the tone with two well-struck points for the south Limerick side.
Brothers John and Jimmy-Barry Murphy made their opponents pay for some slack defensive work with a string of points.
Dual player Conor Fitzgerald cut the deficit by two, but there was no stopping the winners, who looked to Steve Walsh, Kieran O'Callaghan and the Murphy boys to see them safely through to the decider.
Scorers: Ballylanders - John Murphy, JB Murphy 0-4 each; S Fox, K O'Callaghan, T Fox, M Mansell 0-2 each; S Walsh 0-1. Adare - C Fitzgerald 0-3; L Costelloe 1-0; P Lavin 0-2; N Mulvihill 0-1.
