A goal eight minutes from time by Colombian veteran Freddy Rincon enabled local favourites Corinthians to wrap up a 2-0 win over Saudi outsiders Al Nassr in Sao Paulo last night to put the Brazilians into the final of the World Club Championship. Ricardinho had scored the opener after 25 minutes.
Earlier, Real Madrid beat Morocco's Raja Casablanca 3-2 despite having three players sent off. But the margin was not sufficient, with Ndjitap Geremi's late winner being in vain.
Geremi, a substitute for the ineffective Steve McManaman, turned in the area and fired in a low shot to earn Real a victory they scarcely deserved after the dismissals of Jose Guti and Roberto Carlos after an hour and Christian Karembeu five minutes from time.
Raja, who also had Bouchaib El Moubarki sent off in the flareup which resulted in the first two Real red cards, looked set to claim a draw. They took the lead midway through the first half through Youssef Achami, and after Real levelled early in the second half through a Hierro free-kick and then went ahead through a superb Morientes solo goal, the Moroccans hit back five minutes later through Mustapha Moustaoudia.
