Wesley College - 10 St Columba's College - 10: Wesley College and St Columba's College must do it all again after their first-round draw in Kilternan yesterday. The wind ensured a classic game was never on the cards and both sides had reasons to be thankful and aggrieved by the conditions in what was a typical derby affair.
Playing with a strong wind in the first half, St Columba's dominated territorially, though they fell behind in the third minute when Henry Micks' off-target penalty was hit by a gust of wind which blew it between the posts.
However, with their lineout dominant, St Columba's eventually went in front in the 14th minute when front row James Moore went over after a series of lineouts. St Columba's should have had more points on the board with the otherwise flawless Adam Dean missing the conversion while only a last-ditch tackle stopped Ollie Rowland going over for a try.
But, against the run of play, they grabbed a second try early in the second half when Alastir Rauscher stormed through from a lineout. However, with the favourable wind, Wesley battled back with Daniel Goode going over for a try after an excellent front row move and Micks levelled with the conversion.
