THERE WAS a dramatic sequel to the Knockbridge handicap at Dundalk yesterday when the winner, Choosey's Treasure, was disqualified after under Christy Roche failed to weigh in.
The former champion jockey, who earlier in the day scored on Distinctly West in the Mullacrew claiming race, was furious with the decision: "I came straight in and weighed in front of Pat (Smullen) and I just can't believe it. This is the first time this has happened me in 30 years."
Clerk of the Scales John Harvey said: "I am perfectly satisfied that he failed to weigh in, and one of the stewards was also sitting beside me."
After a lengthy inquiry the veteran rider was suspended for 10 days from the 13th of September and ordered to forfeit his riding fee. Fridolin, a 14 to 1 chance trained by Dermot Weld, was awarded the contest to provided lending apprentice rider, Pat Smullen with a 66 1/2 to 1 double.
Smullen had earlier partnered the Tommy Stack trained Sir Oracle to comfortably land the Riverstown Maiden by 3 1/2 lengths.
Any Port easily landed the featured Howandale Services Rossbracken Handicap Chase after cruising to lend before the final fence under Pat Malone, before drawing away on the level to win snugly from Timely Affair.
