Risk Material defied topweight under Christy Roche to land the Leighlin EBF Nursery Handicap, to help Aidan O'Brien record a 199 to 1 four-timer, on the second and final day of the Gowran Park August meeting yesterday. Roche needed all of his strength to head Challenger Two and Jamie Spencer in the final 50 yards before drawing away close home to score by three-parts of a length.
He completed a double in the Goresbridge EBF Maiden on the newcomer, Celtic Cavalier, carrying the colours of Sue Magnier. Andrew "Frostie" Kelly (17), a popular member of the Ballydoyle team, recorded his second success, courtesy of Angel From Heaven, who won the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Series Handicap in good style from stable companion Luisa Di Camerata. O'Brien's big-price accumulator was sparked off in the opening Old Leighlin Maiden Hurdle with Ithastobesaid, who battled on gamely for Charlie Swan to lead over the final flight to win by three lengths.
Handaza and John Murtagh justified favouritism in the Thomastown EBF Fillies Maiden after collaring front-running Delirious Moment and Michael Kinane inside the final furlong.
The filly's trainer, John Oxx, said: "Her dam, Hazaradjat won the Victor McCalmont Memorial for me and I hope she can go on to better things, maybe get placed in a listed contest. She'll probably end up in a handicap next though."
Dermot Weld nominated a handicap at Tralee next for his charge, Celebrity Style, after she made all under Michael Kinane to complete a hat-trick in the Cloghagla Handicap.
