Roma coach Fabio Capello fears the Italian champions may have lost their appetite for success after they fell to a surprise 2-0 defeat to promoted Piacenza yesterday. Roma are winless having drawn their first two league games and they also lost their opening Champions League match to Real Madrid on Tuesday.
"I am afraid that the players are still satisfied with having won the league. I sincerely hope I am wrong, but I am afraid that may be the case," Capello said.
The capital's other title hopefuls Lazio, championship winners in 2000, have also made a slow start - their goalless draw at home to Torino was their third consecutive draw.
Juventus lead Serie A with three straight wins, but coach Marcello Lippi said it was too soon to talk about a crisis at the two Rome clubs.
"We are still in the early stages. They may have had a slow start but I am sure they will soon be back in the running," said Lippi."
In Spain, Celta Vigo lost their one hundred per cent record after a 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad yesterday, but stay on top of the Spanish first division on goal difference.
By contrast, Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid plunged into the relegation zone after victories by Tenerife and Valladolid.
Real crashed 3-1 at Real Betis on Saturday and have only one point from three matches, which equals their worst ever start to the season.
The pressure is on Real Madrid coach Vicente Del Bosque to engineer a winat home to Espanyol next week. If they fail to win, Del Bosque could quickly be without a job.
