SENIOR LADIES AMATEUR BRITISH OPEN:Pat Doran had to settle for runner's-up spot in the Senior Ladies British Open Amateur Championship for the second successive year at Belvoir Park, Belfast yesterday.
The Donabate veteran finished with a 54-hole aggregate of 231 – 15 over par – to end up one stroke behind the new champion, Woking’s Felicity Christine.
Doran was annoyed with herself at the end as she dropped a stroke on the final hole to lose the opportunity of glory via a play-off.
Doran reached the turn in the final round in 36 to put herself in pole position but her problem really came on the short 11th when she slumped to a triple bogey six after getting into all sorts of trouble.
SENIOR HOME INTERNATIONAL: Ireland won the Senior Men's Home International Championship for an unprecedented fourth successive year at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire yesterday and completed the Triple Crown with a 7-2 trouncing of England.
In the end it was comfortable but at one stage in the afternoon when the English led in four singles a nail-biting finish appeared in store – this Irish achievement to win in all four countries is quite remarkable.
Ireland made the perfect start to this final day of the round-robin series when they dominated the foursomes and were 2.5-0.5 up at lunch.
YOUNG CHAMPIONS TROPHY: Lisa Maguire slumped to her worst-ever competitive round to tumble down the leaderboard on the final day of the Duke of York Young Champions Trophy tournament at Royal Liverpool yesterday.
The overnight leader was carded a disastrous 88, the worst score of any of the 53 competitors. for a 54-hole aggregate of 240 and saw her fall to 27th place.
She was caught by twin sister Leona, who finished with her best round of the week- a 75 to end on the same 240 mark as Lisa.
They were some 14 strokes adrift of joint winners England’s Harry Casey, the Carris Trophy holder and Spaniard Harang Lee.
Irish boy Jordan Hood recorded a last round 84 for a 247 aggregate and he finished in joint 40th place
