RTÉ and GPA find level ground

The dispute between RTÉ and the Gaelic Players Association has been resolved

The dispute between RTÉ and the Gaelic Players Association has been resolved. Players who had been refusing to take part in post-match interviews will now co-operate with the broadcaster.

This stand-off arose from RTE's refusal to allow product placement of the C&C Club Energise drink during the interviews. The broadcasters have always maintained that their hands are tied on the matter by statute and EU directive.

Last night the GPA issued a statement, giving the following details: "In return for the collective co-operation of players, the national broadcaster has made a longer-term commitment to players to acknowledge the added value of player accessibility for interview purposes. Negotiated over a period of several weeks, the package will provide the GPA with extensive benefits, including coverage of GPA events."

Meanwhile, Tomás Ó Sé was exonerated of foul play by the Central Disciplinary Committee. The Kerry defender used video evidence to show his actions in the Munster football semi-final against Limerick on June 19th did not warrant a suspension.
