Mayo fielded 12 of the side likely to start in the All-Ireland final for the Dr Joseph Cunnane Cup final at Balla last Saturday evening. Leading by 1-7 to 0-5 at halftime, Mayo manager John Maughan thought it wiser to withdraw the bulk of his team at that stage, making eight substitutions. All his first-choice players came through a well-contested first half unscathed.
Colm McMenamon, Kieran McDonald, Pat Fallon, David Brady, Fergal Costello and Dermot Flanagan were all in top form, with the only noticeable absentee being tonsilitis victim Pat Holmes, who should be fit for Sunday week.
