The Old Belvedere Floodlit Cup got off to a good start at Anglesea Road last night with Bective Rangers running in 10 tries before a modest crowd. Suttonians, still to win a competitive match this season, were up against it as early as the first minute when centre Robbie Milliken took advantage of an early mistake to score with just 46 seconds on the clock. Nonetheless up until the first quarter Suttonians were within striking distance of their opponents with a try from number eight Michael Casserly leaving the score at 17-8.

But the gulf between the two was evident as the game wore on. Leading 29-8 at the interval Bective dominated the second half and Barry Loughrey, on for James Hardy on the left wing, proved a more than adequate replacement scoring two tries.

Scorers: Bective: D Lane penalty, seven conversions, B Loughrey two tries, conversion, R Milliken two tries; B Cunningham, D Mahon, J Hardy, D Shaw, L Hoyne, P O'Connor try each; Suttonians: N McCann penalty, M Casserly try.
