Dr Harty Cup: Two goals from Tiernan Ryan within 60 seconds of the final whistle gave Scoil Iosaef Kilmallock a winning start in the Dr Harty Cup (Munster colleges senior hurling) at Claughaun yesterday.
Ennis CBS, returning to the competition after a long absence, failed to make use of the strong wind in the first half and turned over with an uncomfortable 0-4 to 0-3 advantage, having posted 10 wides.
However, Scoil Iosaef, beaten semi-finalists last year, experienced similar problems in the third quarter, and two points for Ennis from the lively Alan Ball left the Kilmallock team three points in arrears.
Ryan sparked their revival with a marvellous point, and won the hearts of his team's followers with two green flags after the Clare boys, reduced to 14 players, had threatened to hold on to their slender lead.
Kilmallock 2-6 Ennis CBS 0-6
