Bray, who missed the chance to move level with the students, should also rest easier having banked four invaluable points during a crucial and emotional week.

The visitors initially pinned their opponents deep but, once unshackled, UCD were intent on slicing open their rivals.

But while midfielders Ronan Finn and Shane McFaul cut a swagger in possession, neither could penetrate a Bray defence that held steady until the 70th minute.

Bray, though, took the lead four minutes after the restart when Stephen Fox spotted Emeka Onwubiko in space and the striker steered the ball low past Darren Quigley from just inside the area.

But UCD were relentless in their pursuit of an equaliser and it duly arrived with 20 minutes remaining.

Substitute Peter Hynes split the defence and strike partner Conor Sammon applied the finish.
