Newbridge side Sarsfields won their third Kildare SFC title of the decade with an impressive win over Allenwood, in a onesided final at Newbridge yesterday. Allenwood were held scoreless until the ninth minute when Niall Callaghan finally opened their account, but Sarsfields were three points in front and led all the way to half-time.
The winners started the second half with a 0-7 to 1-1 lead. Although they never lost the advantage, they were sometimes troubled by a resurgent Allenwood, who twice closed the gap to a single point.
However, Allenwood failed to score for almost a quarter of an hour during the second half, while Sarsfields hit a succession of unanswered scores to run out east winners and claim the title for the first time since 1994.
