Kildare SFC Final replay/ Sarsfields 1-11 St Laurence 0-9: Sarsfields made no mistake at the second time of asking when they claimed the Kildare senior football title in a replay at Newbridge.

A late free by Pádraig Brennan gave the winners a second chance last weekend and he was in top form again yesterday, contributing six points to their tally.

Sarsfields were dominant from the opening stages. Brennan opened their account within a minute and added another point two minutes later.

Pádraig O'Neill, who had a fine championship for St Laurence's, kept his side in touch with two frees but Sarsfields continued to have the edge.

Brennan and O'Neill traded scores near the end of the half and Sarsfields led 0-4 to 0-3 at the interval. They maintained the pressure on St Laurence's from the start of the second half. Minor player Gary White scored from play and Brennan added another free.

Tommy O'Neill managed a point for St Laurence's but they were struggling to score from play and found themselves in deep trouble midway through the second half when goalkeeper Pat Keatley was deceived by a high lobbed ball from Ciarán Dempsey which went into the net off the upright.

Brennan extended the Sarsfields advantage to seven points and thereafter St Laurence's began the fruitless search for goals.

The losers rallied in the final quarter but Sarsfields managed to reply each time they conceded a score and they held on to record a convincing victory.
