Scotland captain Jason White is relishing tomorrow's clash with Samoa at Murrayfield in a match that gives the Scots the opportunity to atone for last weekend's loss to Argentina.

"We were very disappointed that we didn't win last weekend against Argentina. We had the potential but we didn't deliver. But we showed by our play in the last 10 minutes that we have the fitness," White said.

He added that the Scots had not helped their cause by running up a large penalty count.

"Twenty penalties is simply too high in international rugby," he said. "Obviously there is a fine line between keeping good discipline and infringing. What we have to do is keep a good relationship with the referee and do what he is asking. As captain I will try to work out what he wants."

Ireland's Alain Rolland will be in charge.

The Scots will face a different Samoa team from the XV they defeated 38-3 in Wellington last year, containing a number of players White respects.

"I know they will be very physical. But they're great athletes who like to run the ball. They're very good rugby players. I know some of them from the Premiership, particularly the Tuilagi brothers, who play for Leicester.

"Last year when we beat them it was very close for most of the first half. They put up real resistance, but we did the basics well in the second half and scored tries.

"We have to do these same basics again and be able to perform them under pressure. It's about depth, accuracy of passing and winning the set-piece. The big picture is that we have to do what we did last week, only better."

White, who is leading Scotland for only the second time, added: "I've got to lead in the way I'm comfortable with. I shall be concentrating on playing well."
