Scotland have delayed announcing their side for the visit of South Africa on Saturday week to give several key players more time to recover from injury.

The selectors, who were due to name the team today, will wait until Monday.

Chief among their deliberations will concern British Lions duo Rob Wainwright and Doddie Weir, who were forced to miss the demoralising defeat against Australia.

With blind-side flanker Adam Roxburgh definitely out after being forced off with concussion on Saturday, Wainwright is the obvious choice to regain the number six shirt provided he can recover full match fitness after being sidelined by an Achilles injury.

Weir, meanwhile, is more hopeful of shaking off a troublesome back problem that has forced him to take a fortnight's rest from competitive action with Newcastle Falcons.

Melrose full-back Rowen Shepherd is another who could come back into contention depending on the progress of his rib injury, along with Wasps second-row Andy Reed - also forced to pull out of the original selection against the Wallabies.
