Single sculler Sam Lynch of St Michael's and the members of the national lightweight four showed good early-season form in Irish Amateur Rowing Union time trials at a beautifully still Blessington on Saturday.

Neville Maxwell and Brendan second place in the first time trial. O'Connor has recovered from a recent viral infection and will travel with the four to Banyoles in Spain for a coaching camp this day week.

Mary Hussey, who was so unfortunate to miss the Atlanta Olympics, now has her sights set on a place as a single sculler in Sydney. She was comfortably the fastest female single sculler on the day.

The Trinity pairing of Stephen Hurley and Thomas Ball won the third trial. Niall O'Toole will certainly want to forget the day, however - he crashed and damaged his new purpose-built single scull.
