Waterford, who trailed 1-9 to 0-3 at the break, were reduced to 14 men after eight minutes when John Coffey was sent off after clashing with Martin Mulleady.

Sheridan hit the net in the 10th minute, while five Longford points were fired over by Padraic Davis. Paul Barden, Michael Kenny, David Barden and Sheridan accounted for the other Longford scores in the first half.

Second-half goals were scored by Paul Barden and Niall Sheridan in the space of a few minutes and Waterford's tale of woe was complete when midfielder Andy Hubbard was sent off five minutes from the finish.
