THE National League continues its programme of close season representative fixtures this evening when Tommy Connolly's side takes on the Korean Olympic XI at 7.30 p.m. at Clonshaugh.
Connolly, who was already without the services of Alan Gough for the tie, yesterday suffered another blow with the withdrawal through injury of influential midfielder Tony Sheridan.
The manager had called up newly signed St Patrick's Athletic goalkeeper Brian McKenna, while Jonathan Treacy of UCD and Drogheda's Trevor Crolly were added to provide extra cover. He has, however, decided against replacing Sheridan.
At club level, meanwhile, it has been denied that Cork City has changed hands. Director Chris Herlihy said, yesterday that "there was a probable deal on, subject to a few conditions being met, but on reflection the board decided against proceeding with it".
Meanwhile, Sligo Rovers, whose season starts in less than two weeks time with the InterToto Cup, have announced that they are to seek funding from UEFA to help with the cost of taking part in the competition which they claim will cost £90,000.
Rovers are protesting about the additional cost involved in having Lithuanian side Kaunus included in their group at short notice after the Greek side they expected to play was expelled. The club, which will take on Sunderland in a friendly at the Showgrounds on August 2nd, has also announced that they are to bring five players in from Britain on trial, including Dundee pair Mark Hutchenson and Paul Mathers.
