IT IS 25 years since Dermot Weld came agonisingly close to winning the Grand National with Greasepaint, but the legendary trainer’s focus will be resolutely on the flat game tonight as Signal Fire attempts to win again on the Dundalk all-weather.

The Juddmonte-owned colt made all to win here over seven furlongs last month, but is hiked up to an extended 10 furlongs now for a handicap in which the Aga Khan has three runners. All three are course winners as well, but Signal Fire raced last time like an increase in trip would suit him and he can prove the point now.

Giant Slalom kicked off the first double of jockey Martin Harley’s career at Leopardstown on Sunday, and an 8lb rise in the ratings doesn’t look enough to stop him adding tonight’s seven-furlong handicap, while Johnny Murtagh’s mount Invincible Ash can get the better of last year’s winner, An Tadh, in the conditions sprint.

Chelsea Lately belied her odds with a fine debut second to King Ledley at the Curragh and can use that experience to maximum effect in tonight’s opener.
