The hits just kept on coming for the punters at Killarney and number one among them yesterday was the unconsidered 25 to 1 shot, Cool Climate, who bounded home in the first division of the handicap hurdle.

Not even the winner's Limerick-based trainer Edward Mitchell fancied Cool Climate: "I forgot to declare a tongue tie for the horse" - but it didn't stop him looking like the winner from some way out.

Tommy Treacy was pulling up before the line and those who backed Cool Climate were laughing with a close-on 44 to 1 pay out.

Attalicus provided another bumper Tote pay out when paying almost 43 to 1 for his all-the-way success in the opening novice hurdle. The 6 to 4 favourite Homer was found to be coughing afterwards, and both Paul Carberry and Ken Whelan were stood down after heavy falls.

That proved expensive for Carberry, who had to watch the mile handicap from the stands as his intended mount, Fast And Furious, cruised through under a super-confident Charlie Swan to defy topweight from Montpelier Street.

As if that wasn't bad enough, Carberry also learned his fall will cost him a week on the sidelines due to concussion.

The Dermot Weld-trained Daqtora provided some relief for favourite backers in the 11-furlong maiden.

Michael Hourigan ran four in the Racegoers Club Handicap Hurdle and it was the Barry Geraghty-ridden Society Blue who emerged best from the favourite Johnny Ringo.

"She could go to Galway, although the track might not suit her," said Hourigan.

Fearsome Factor didn't attract any substantial support before the £14,500 amateur riders' handicap but it didn't prove any hindrance to the Michael Halford-trained six -year-old who had much too much acceleration for Dr Torus.
