Skerries' pressure eventually paid off at ALSAA yesterday, as they earned a plum draw with St Mary's College when the Junior Cup begins in earnest in the new year.
Templeogue opened the scoring with a penalty from full back Cian Keogh on five minutes. Skerries, though playing with the wind, had to settle for a penalty, which was landed by hooker Daniel Lamont on the stroke of half-time.
The second half was mostly one-way traffic, with Skerries relentless in their search for a breakthrough, but they again fell behind to another Keogh penalty on 40 minutes.
However victory was finally claimed in the dying seconds when centre Daniel Crowell made the telling pass for Eoin Mulligan to cross for a try.
St Columba's College overcame Gorey in the second round of the Senior Cup, winning 12-5 at Wicklow yesterday.
Making the most of the strong wind in the first half, Andrew White and Alastair Musgrave scored tries for St Columba's, one of which was converted by Patrick Cooper.
Gorey battled back in the second period but just came up short.
