Death of Jim English:THE FORMER Wexford hurling star Jim English died suddenly, aged 75, on Saturday at his Co Carlow home. He will be remembered particularly as captain of the team that denied Cork's Christy Ring a record ninth All-Ireland medal in the final of 1956.

A native of Templeudigan, Rathnure, and a member of the Rathnure club, where he played alongside the three Rackard brothers, English was a prominent member, at right wing back, of the great Wexford team that won All-Irelands in 1955, 1956 and 1960.

English was noted as an outstanding, skilful, sweet-striking defender and a fine sportsman.

His greatest day was that victory over The Rebels more than 52 years ago, a game marked by Art Foley's wonder save from Ring.
