LONGFORD SFC FINAL Longford Slashers 0-11 Dromard 1-5:LONGFORD SLASHERS claimed their first Longford senior football title in 16 years with a hard-fought win over last year's beaten finalists.
It was Dromard who registered the first score of the game; Jamesie Martin pointing. A free from Colin Smith brought the sides level before Slashers fired over four unanswered points.
Dromard began to come into the game but hit three wides in a row. Those misses proved costly and Slashers tagged on three further points to lead by six at the break.
The second half didn’t come to life until the final five minutes when Dromard cut Slashers’ seven-point lead to just two before the end but a free from Smith steadied the nerves for the Longford town side and they held on.
