League of Ireland round-up:Derry City closed the gap on Bohemians to two points at the top of the Premier Division as they beat the Dubliners 3-2 in a pulsating clash at a packed Brandywell tonight.

All seemed to be going to plan for Pat Fenlon’s champions at half-time after midfielder Paul Keegan’s 17th-minute strike had given them a 1-0 lead. But that all changed in the space of three minutes just after the break when goals from Thomas Stewart and Mark Farren put the Candystripes 2-1 ahead.

Barry Molly increased their lead in the 74th minute following good work from Ciaran Martyn to send the home crowd into raptures.

Five minutes later substitute Anto Murphy gave his Bohs a lifeline when he scored with his first touch, but Derry held out to claim the spoils.

Declan O’Brien’s second goal of the season helped Dundalk jump three places to sixth in the table on the back of 1-0 victory over Galway United at Oriel Park. O’Brien’s night would end on a sour note, though, as he was dismissed in injury time for a second bookable offence.

Drogheda United made it a Louth double on the night as Brian King’s goal after 31 minutes helped the bottom side secure a valuable 1-0 win against Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.

Bray’s chances of getting back into the game were dealt a blow in the 72nd minute when centre back Chris Deans was red-carded for an off the ball incident.
