Leinster Senior League side Crumlin United provided the shock of the FAI Cup second round with a 1-0 win away to struggling Premier Division side Finn Harps.

Striker Greg Moorhouse, who hit a hat-trick as Crumlin retained their FAI Intermediate Cup when beating Letterkenny Rovers 5-0 last week, scored the only goal of the game at Finn Park four minutes into the second half.

Harps, who had suffered 7-0 and 4-0 defeats in their most recent league games, finished with 10 men when midfielder Barry Molloy was sent off for a second yellow card on 64 minutes.

Ulster Senior League side Letterkenny Rovers held Athlone Town to a 0-0 draw at Lissywollen to bring the First Division side back to Donegal’s Leckview Park on Tuesday.

The width of a post deprived St Patrick’s Athletic of a record-breaking competitive win as they trounced Limerick Junior side Pike Rovers 8-0 at Richmond Park.

Equalling a league win from 1967, the facile victory did nonetheless see the Inchicore club record their biggest win in the FAI Cup as they cruised into the third round of the competition.

Billy Dennehy, Mark Timlin and Graham Kelly each scored twice with Michael Barker and Dinny Corcoran also finding the net.

Man-of-the-match Kelly then spurned the chance of a hat-trick – and a record win – when shooting against a post from the penalty spot in the final minute.

Second hat-trick

John O’Flynn scored his second hat-trick of the season as runaway First Division leaders Limerick beat Leinster Senior League side Bluebell United 5-2 at Markets Field.

Chris Mulhall put Limerick ahead on 14 minutes with O’Flynn scoring his hat-trick, which included two penalties, after Shane Tracy had had one saved by Bluebell keeper Andy McNulty, to put the home side 4-0 up by the 55th minute.

And although goals from Sean Byrne and Toyeeb Mustapha gave Bluebell some hope, Paul O’Conor eased any Limerick nerves when adding their fifth goal in stoppage time.

First-half goals from Kieran Sadlier and Jimmy Keohane sent Sligo Rovers on their way to a 3-0 win over First Division Cabinteely at the Showgrounds. Gavin Peers added the third goal on 66 minutes.

Cobh Ramblers beat Cherry Orchard 2-1 at St Colman’s Park with a winner from Eoin McGreevy after the LSL side’s Ryan Coombes had equalised Shane O’Connor’s opener.

In the two all non-league clashes, both sides finished with ten men as Ringmahon Rangers beat Glebe North 2-1 on Saturday while yesterday FAI Junior Cup winners Sheriff YC had three players sent off as they lost 2-1 at Limerick side Janesboro.
