Westmeath inter-county players Paul Bray and Liz Quinn from the Collinstown Club won the final PPUI event of the season when they captured the National Mixed Foursomes title at St Bridget's Club in Kilcullen on Sunday.
The Collinstown pair shot a superb 15 up for the 36 holes versus par event to win by one from Ray Murphy (Templebreedy) and his wife Linda, who plays out of the Collins club. Bray and Quinn were five up after the first 18 holes but a brilliant nine birdie round of 10 up for the second 18 which included four birdies in a row from the 11th, gave them the Seβn Coyne Memorial Trophy which was sponsored by Brophy Bros, Builders, Blessington.
Joe Flood, in partnership with Eleanor Walsh, aced the final hole to put the seals on a final nine of 21 that saw the Fermoy pair race to their second best gross award. Rita and Ben Culligan (IGB) won the special age category but will rue three fours in the last six holes that cost them the title.
