Rugby News round-up: Northampton have admitted they have made an offer to Carlos Spencer in the hope of luring the All Blacks outhalf to Franklin's Gardens.
The 29-year-old has won 35 caps for New Zealand and is an obvious target for the Saints, who will lose Shane Drahm to Worcester at the end of the season while former England international Paul Grayson is moving into coaching.
Northampton owner Keith Barwell said: "We have signed a world-class player that we haven't announced, but he has signed on whether we are relegated or not."
Australia Test fullback Chris Latham celebrated his 100th game for Queensland with a try to help the Reds secure a 21-15 win over the Cats in a Super 12 match in Brisbane yesterday.
Latham scored the winning try early in the second half after Wallaby winger Wendell Sailor gathered his own kick and sent the fullback in under the posts.
Sailor scored a try himself shortly before half-time but the South Africans went to the break leading 12-11 after crossing twice in a five-minute burst.
Winger Chumani Booi scored the opening try in the 33rd minute and Jaque Fourie added a second five minutes later.
The Australians had led 6-0 after an early penalty from Elton Flatley and a second from Latham. Queensland regained the lead with Latham's try, converted by Julian Huxley. Cats fullback Andre Pretorius pulled the margin back to three points with a penalty but a second penalty from Huxley gave the Reds a six-point buffer.
The result lifted the Reds into eighth place with two rounds remaining and left the Cats second from bottom.
