The studios of British architect Norman Foster have been selected to carry out the remodelling of Barcelona's Nou Camp stadium, the Primera Liga club have said.
Foster was responsible for designing the new Wembley but Barca's director of capital resources Joan Franquesa was keen to stress the Nou Camp project was completely different. "The proposal will not be similar to Wembley in terms of aesthetics but will reflect its modernity and functionality," Franquesa said.
They said they hoped to transform the stadium into "an iconic element of the city". The estimated cost of the project is around 250 million and it will reportedly increase the capacity to around 104,000.
Foster's other projects have included the restoration of the Reichstag in Berlin and the Millennium Bridge in London.

The bitterness of the divide within McLaren was confirmed yesterday when it was revealed Fernando Alonso had not spoken to team boss Ron Dennis for six weeks.
According to Dennis, the Spaniard is unhappy he does not get the preferential treatment over rookie team-mate Lewis Hamilton he believes he deserves as world champion.
Dennis admitted he had not talked to Alonso since a row at the Hungarian Grand Prix in his evidence at a World Motor Sport Council hearing in Paris on September 13th, the transcripts of which have been published today.
Dennis said: "We are not on speaking terms, but that does not matter. In Fernando's mind, there is the firm belief that our policy, whereby each driver receives equal treatment, does not properly reflect his status as world champion." Cricket
