Tim Duncan scored 28 points and took 18 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs held off the New York Knicks 96-89 on Wednesday to take a three games to one lead in the NBA Finals and stand one win away from their first championship. No team has ever come back from a 3-1 Finals deficit.

"We're close but we haven't won anything yet," said Duncan's Twin Tower, David Robinson. "The last could be the hardest. Try to understand, this is our first time in the Finals. It's Madison Square Garden. We are going to build in the future on this game."

New York pulled within one point with 5:24 to go and two points with 3:40 left, but could never get over the hump, missing seven shots in a stretch from just over three minutes remaining to 34.8 seconds to go.

"Give them credit, they challenged us, we responded," said Duncan.
