St Flannan’s of Ennis came out on top in their Harty Cup Group D game against rivals St Caimin’s CS at Clarecastle yesterday. The 1-17 to 1-11 result places them joint head of Group D while St Caimin’s have yet to record a win.

The opening exchanges were tight and St Caimin’s led the first half 0-7 to 0-6. But, once Cian Moloney latched on to a Bobby Duggan delivery and found the net four minutes after the restart, they never looked back. Top scorer Duggan bagged 11 points before Shane Gleeson pulled a goal back for St Caimin’s from a free late in the hour.

In Group B, Blackwater CS emerged victorious 2-15 to 0-14 over West Limerick Colleges in Mallow. While two excellent goals in the ninth and 12th minutes from David Geary and Michael Kearney laid the foundations, their ability to pick off points was a big difference.

The Lismore side led 2-5 to 0-8 but soon opened up a 2-10 to 0-8 advantage. West Limerick Colleges did fight back at the three-quarter mark through Darren Jones and Damien Lacey points but Blackwater CS pulled away entering the final five minutes, going nine points clear, 2-13 to 0-10, to place them top of their group.

Elsewhere in Group B Abbey CBS got off the mark with a 1-16 to 0-13 win over Charleville CBS at Martinstown. They got a tonic start through a John Kearns goal. At the break it read 1-9 to 0-4. Pa O’Callaghan landed six points for Charleville CBS but Kearns with 1-4 and Donal O’Dwyer (0-5) made sure of the points for the Tipperary side.

Nenagh CBS’s 1-19 to 0-7 victory over Coláiste Chríost Rí at Charleville keeps their hopes alive in Group C. They led 0-8 to 0-5 at the interval and bolstered by a first-half penalty save took the game to the Cork side in the second half.

Five minutes after the resumption Tadhg Gallagher netted and with Donncha Quinn amassing nine points they ran out winners in spite of a personal tally of five points from Chríost Rí’s Colm Keane.

Thurles CBS were decisive in their 3-26 to 0-11 win over Hamilton High School Bandon, placing them top of Group C. While in Group A, Ardscoil Rís Limerick held out for a narrow 2-15 to 2-12 triumph over St Colman’s Fermoy to give them six points from three games.
