ST JAMES'S GATE, whose future has been in doubt, made a presentation with an unnamed sponsor to a meeting of the Board of Control of the FAI National League last night.

The name of the sponsor was revealed to National League president Michael Hyland but the club did not want it to be made public in case their application should prove unsuccessful.

Having examined the proposal, Hyland and chief executive Brendan Menton have asked to meet the club and the sponsors today to clarify the sponsorship deal. A final decision will be made today.

The board of control also considered a dispute regarding three former Dundalk players, Matt Brittain, Keith Long and Stephen Kelly. They ruled that Brittain is an out of contract player and as such a free agent. Accordingly the National League will be notifying the IFA today of this decision and issuing a clearance certificate for him to play for Ards.

Long, however, is a properly retained Dundalk player and cannot be cleared to the IFA. In Kelly's case, the League and the IFA will today exchange copies of registration forms signed by the player and he is being requested to appear again before the officers of the League today to clarify the situation as regards the two forms. A decision will also be made on this matter today.
