St Joseph's ... 1-5 Gormanston ... 0-4: Gareth Hickey's goal after 20 minutes proved to be the decisive score as St Joseph's, Rochfortbridge, overcame Franciscan College, Gormanston in a first-round tie yesterday.
Playing with the elements in the first half, St Joseph's took advantage of the home draw and chalked up a six-point interval lead. After Jamie Wilson and David Glennon had put St Joseph's two points up, Hickey rifled the ball past goalkeeper Mark Butterly. Wilson completed the first-half scoring with a point in the 26th minute.
Franciscan's Chris Moore opened the scoring in the second half but Robbie Kenny replied instantly for St Joseph's while Seán Collier added a second point. Jamie Wilson shot his third point five minutes from time to put the Bridge six points up.
