St Mary's prove far too powerful

St Mary's College... 28 CUS..

St Mary's College ... 28 CUS ... 0St Mary's College were far too strong for CUS as they ran out comfortable winners at a muddy Lakelands Park in Terenure yesterday.

St Mary's were effective in pounding the ball up the middle all afternoon and although they had to wait until injury time in the first half before scoring their first try, their physical superiority was emphasised in the second half when they ran in a further four tries.

Scrumhalf Matthew Conway got the crucial first try and with Neil Cowhey having earlier converted a penalty St Mary's went in at the break with a deserved 8-0 lead.

CUS had trouble bringing down the St Mary's number eight, Kevin Gallivan, all afternoon, and he was rewarded for his man-of-the-match performance when he scored the best try of the game, finishing off a fine St Mary's move after 46 minutes.
