Schools' Rugby Leinster Junior Cup quarter-final/ St Michael's College 17 Terenure College 6: The St Michael's juniors refused to go the way of their seniors in a worthy display of grit against Terenure College in the Powerade Leinster Schools quarter-final at Donnybrook yesterday.
Terenure centre Dylan Olin kicked the opening points in the fifth minute and he could have had another three when his shot from the right rebounded off an upright. Terenure winger Ciarán Quigley came closest to a breakthrough only to be foiled by some vigilant defending.
One slip of the hand gave St Michael's a scrum with the option to play on and how they profited as left wing Jack Redmond latched on to a kick ahead from Lucas McGrath to beat away a tackle on his way into the corner.
The try earned St Michael's a 5-3 lead completely against the run of play in the 17th minute. However Terenure responded and Olin kicked Terenure back into the lead in the 24th minute.
When Terenure number eight Adam Clarkin slammed Jamie Headon to the ground with a heavy tackle, St Michael's were awarded a penalty.
Outhalf Lucas McGrath went for touch and Headon took his revenge in the best possible manner by lunging over the line in the 46th minute. Centre Patrick Cleary sealed his side's victory with a late intercept try.
