Wet and wild conditions mixed easily with strong sunshine to produce classic south-coast racing at the penultimate day of the Sovereign's Cup in Kinsale yesterday.
Bob and Bairbre Stewart's sparkling new Dubois 40 continued to romp around the courses yesterday, maintaining a comfortable lead in the 40 boat Class One on IRC. Helmsman Kieran Tarbett could afford to be conservative as Azure quickly accelerated through the leader to establish commanding on-the-water leads.
Among the rest of the class, racing is close with Kinsale's John Godkin's VSOP holding the narrowest of leads over Maurice Mitton's Exclaimation. From there, a host of boats are vying for a top-three finish later this afternoon. Among these is fourth-placed Joggernaut of Galway Bay SC.
