Celtic League News: The trickle of Irish World Cup players back into the provincial set-ups continues as Peter Stringer and Brian Carney return to the Munster squad that plays the Ospreys in Swansea this Sunday in the Magners Celtic League.
Alan Quinlan and Frank Sheahan returned for last week's home defeat against Cardiff, and a further eight internationals are expected back for the Glasgow Warriors game on October 26th. Munster have one more match, against Edinburgh, before their Heineken European Cup opener against London Wasps at the Ricoh Arena on November 10th.
Carney didn't make the bench for any of Ireland's Pool D matches while Stringer has not featured since being dropped in the wake of the 14-10 victory over Georgia on September 15th. Seven of the eight players still recuperating from the World Cup - Ronan O'Gara, Denis Leamy, David Wallace, Paul O'Connell, Donncha O'Callaghan, John Hayes and Marcus Horan - started every game in France but Jerry Flannery, who featured in every match, only started the games against France and Argentina.
Gavin Duffy returns to the Connacht squad after World Cup duty for their third successive away match in the Celtic League, against the Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park tomorrow (7.30pm). Captain Andrew Farley is still out injured while hooker Adrian Flavin is ruled out with a cheekbone injury. Coach Michael Bradley will announce his side today.
The Leinster Schools under-18 and under-19 sides enjoyed a fine double yesterday when they defeated Connacht in Athlone.
The under-18s won 24-0 with tries from Ray Crotty, Keelan McKenna and Richard Bent. Noel Reid chipped in a penalty and three conversions.
In the under-19 match, tries from Michael McLoughlin, Gavin Greene, Peter Finegan, Gary Foley and Michael Noon - with Ian McKinley adding three conversions - helped the visitors to a 31-10 victory in Buccaneers RFC.
