LADIES SFC ALL-IRELAND SEMI-FINAL Tyrone 1-9 Kerry 0-11:A NEW name will be inscribed on the Brendan Martin Cup next Sunday week when Dublin and Tyrone clash in the TG4 All-Ireland women's SFC final.
Tyrone qualified for their first final after pipping Kerry in a hard-fought semi-final replay at Banagher on Saturday while Dublin have been defeated three times in the showpiece decider – 2003, 2004 and 2009.
Tyrone had to come from three points down at half-time, 1-2 to 0-8, to secure the hard-earned win. Tyrone’s top scorer Gemma Begley netted after just 55 minutes to give her side an ideal start but they were outscored by 0-2 to 0-8 for the remainder of the half.
Kerry were level by the 12th minute – 0-4 to 1-1 – and led after a superb Mags O’Donoghue score two minutes later. Catriona McGahan’s 22nd-minute point for Tyrone levelled the game again at 1-2 to 0-5 but three unanswered points before half-time saw Kerry regain the initiative.
Tyrone’s Sarah Connolly reduced the deficit after the interval and by the 11th minute, they drew level at 1-6 to 0-9 before Ní Mhuircheartaigh’s second point of the half put Kerry ahead again.
Tyrone equalised through Cathy Donnelly’s point and scores from ace corner forward Joline Donnelly (free) and Aisling O’Kane pushed them two clear – 1-9 to 0-10 – before Ní Mhuircheartaigh’s late final point.
