Waterford IT 0-14 DIT 0-12:THE 2008 champions are back in a semi-final after edging out DIT in Ballygunner yesterday.
WIT were first to settle and opened up an early four-point lead courtesy of frees from Timmy Hammersley and two points from Cork panellist Fintan O’Leary.
DIT struggled to cope with Hammersley’s pace, and they brought an extra man back into defence, and, led by Dublin’s Tomás Brady, they soon made an impact.
They managed five unanswered points to go into the lead with Dublin’s Peter Kelly helping himself to a brace of scores.
However, three points from Hammersley and one from Kieran Reade gave the home side a three-point interval lead.
DIT responded with five points on the trot in the third quarter. Paul Ryan’s penalty effort went over the bar but Paul Lynch and Declan O’Dwyer weighed in with fine scores.
With eight minutes left Hammersley’s free brought WIT level before points from man of the match Mark Molloy and Kieran Grehan edged them into the lead.
DIT’s Willie O’Dwyer narrowed the deficit but sub Richie McCarthy sealed Waterford’s victory.
