Today's six-race session at Downpatrick is hardly one to set the pulse racing but a winner is a winner and nobody has had more of those this jumps season than Ruby Walsh. One more could be in the offing with Seamus An Fear in the McCormick Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle.
The teenager rode the seven-year-old to win a maiden hurdle at Kilbeggan in August and although not on board Seamus An Fear when he ran at Listowel, the horse ran on well on testing conditions to be fourth to Knockdoo and Back To Bavaria in a handicap.
Near the top of today's handicap, Yashgans Vision should be a factor judged on earlier successes this season at Dundalk and here when beating Head Chaplain by six lengths. The Tollah, third in a Dundalk bumper, also merits attention but with Walsh riding so well at present, Seamus an Fear is preferred.
Walsh also rides Black Is Beautiful for his father Ted in the opening maiden but on this forecast good to yielding ground slight preference is for the topweight Luminoso.
Charlie Swan's title hopes are taking a back seat to his burgeoning training career but he can ride one of his own charges Lady Moskva to success in the two mile and six furlong handicap hurdle.
This one ran prominently throughout in another hurdles marathon at Listowel when third to Triptodicks and a similar display today should see her with a first-rate chance against the course winner Blackburn and Comrade Chinery, a close third to Oranbay at Dundalk.
Another horse who ran well at Listowel and is a course winner is Dook's Delight who should appreciate the three miles of the handicap chase while Swan Point showed enough over hurdles last season to suggest the Beginners Chase is within his compass.
