The King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes winner Swain heads the list of 22 northern hemisphere-trained entries published yesterday for the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 4th.
Swain, surprise conqueror of Helissio, Singspiel and Pilsudski at Ascot, joins Godolphin stablemate Classic Cliche in a field which also includes Sheikh Mohammed's fellow Pertemps St Leger winner Shantou.
Two of last year's three European runners are engaged again. The 1996 beaten favourite Oscar Schindler, who finished 15th, is joined, once again, by the Ian Balding-trained Grey Shot (seventh).
Mark Johnston has put in the brothers Double Trigger, who finished 17th of 21 when favourite for the race two years ago, and Double Eclipse.
Ulster Harp Derby winner Docklands Limo, trained in Newmarket by Brian McMath, has also been entered, as has Media Star, who leapt to Ebor favouritism after winning at Goodwood on Tuesday.
Spokesman Les Benton said today: "We are absolutely delighted to have received an entry of this calibre - Swain and Classic Cliche are great horses".
The weights for the race will be published next month and Benton hopes that Europe will still be well represented on the day of the race.
"We will be absolutely delighted if five go to post," he said. "But if only three remain, it will be great."
Ireland's Vintage Crop remains the only European-trained winner in the history of the race which was first run in 1861.
