Munster and Leinster lead the under-16 and under-18 tables, respectively, after yesterday's fixtures in the girls' interprovincial hockey tournament in Kilkenny. However, with none of the teams winning maximum points on the opening day, the trophies are still very much up for grabs.
Wesley College's Irish under-16 international Nikki Symmons scored a hat-trick in the day's first under-18 game, helping Leinster to a 5-0 victory over Connacht before they drew 2-2 with title holders Ulster. Connacht recovered to beat South East 1-0, courtesy of a Nollaig Quinn goal, leaving them in second place.
Munster's under-16 team are tied on four points with Ulster, with whom they drew 0-0, but top the standings on goal difference. Holders Leinster, who began their campaign with a win over South East, lost 2-0 to Ulster.
