Team Check: All-Ireland League team news and fixtures

Young Munster

Young Munster

Injuries to both their first-choice scrumhalf Mike Prendergast, definitely out with a medial ligament injury sustained against Constitution, and his understudy Diarmuid Reddan, rated a 40-60 chance after picking up a calf strain in training, will probably delay Young Munster's selection until Friday. Trevor Micks or Brian Beggs could be in line for an AIL debut at scrumhalf. Full back Mark Connolly (hamstring trouble) is likely to recover in time and it is expected that Mike Mullins and Peter Clohessy will play, the latter for the first time since the opening day win over St Mary's. Four loose-heads have been tried in his absence.

Shannon

With most of Shannon's squad involved in the two-day Irish session this week and today's full Munster session, this delays their first get-together until tomorrow. However, they expect to be at full strength and thus able to play their quintet of current Irish internationals en bloc for the first time this season.

Clontarf

Alex Wyllie expects to pick from a full-strength squad today pending a seconds game tonight and a check on Shane McEntee's shoulder injury.

St Mary's College

Save for long-term absentee Emmet Byrne, out for the rest of the season, Brent Pope expects to have a full-strength side for a return to his old Castle Avenue stomping ground and a must-win game for the holders given the curtailed 12match programme. This should mean second AIL outings of the campaign for both Denis Hickie and Malcolm O'Kelly.

Buccaneers

Recently installed coach Simon Allnutt shouldn't deviate too much from the side beaten by Old Crescent, given he won't be returning until next month and another cruciate knee ligament casualty, John Maher, is probably out for the rest of the season.

Ballymena

Allowing for doubts over Rhys Botha, Scott Young and Andy Graham, coach Andre Bester expects all three to be okay in a largely unchanged side. The fit-again Jeff Park and flanker Derek Topping are likely to be confined to the bench while Cois Beukus again plays instead of the injured Mark Blair.

Ballymena (probable): S Young; J Topping, S Stewart, R Botha, A Maxwell; A Derwin, N Doak; N McKernan, P Shields, C Millar, C Beukus, G Longwell, A Graham, R Nelson, J Taggart.

Garryowen

In an ill-timed blow for player and club, David Wallace strained medial ligaments while training with Ireland yesterday and is expected to be sidelined, further delaying an announcement of the Garryowen until later in the week.

DLSP

ASIDE from long-term casualty Kent Ashmore, DLSP expect to be at full strength when announcing their side tomorrow or on Friday.

Dungannon

Nigel Brady will replace the now retired Allen Clarke, while some good cheer comes by way of Tyrone Howe's long-awaited return for his first AIL appearance of the season. Gary Leslie is likely to be picked ahead of Richard Mackey.

Dungannon (probable): B Cunningham; J Cunningham, R Constable, J Bell, T Howe; D Humphreys, S Bell; J Fitzpatrick, N Brady, G Leslie, P Johns, A Kearney, A Boyd, T McWhirter, A Hughes.

Cork Constitution

Anthony Horgan's broken rib is likely to keep him out for another week or two, though the return to arms of the Brian O'MearaRonan O'Gara partnership increases the three-quarter options, with Conor Mahony reverting to centre and Cian Mahony back in the frame.

Lansdowne

Indicative of an injury bedevilled season which has seen last season's beaten finalists plummet down the division after four games without a win, Shane Horgan (ankle), David O'Mahony (blood infection) and long-term absentee Gus Hamilton have all again been ruled out. There are doubts about Reggie Corrigan, Angus McKeen and Aidan McCullan.

Galwegians

Johnny O'Connor may have the plaster removed from his broken arm this week and could return around mid-April but this is offset by the return from injury of back-rowers Junior Charlie and David Lavin, a summer signing from Buccaneers who has been sidelined for most of the season with a broken bone in his foot.

Terenure College

"All I do know is that the international guys (Girvan Dempsey and Eric Miller) will be available," comments coach Kevin Putt pending his selection later in the week, which means, in Dempsey's case, that he will be making his first AIL appearance of the season, while Miller will be making his third.

Old Crescent

Crescent expect to have all their injuries over the last three weeks cleared up.

Blackrock College

Kevin West hopes to announce a team today, though Brian O'Driscoll (shoulder) and Gary Halpin (slipped disc) are doubtful while the desperately unlucky Brian Carey is out for the season after damaging the cruciate ligaments in his "good" knee.
