Team Check: Score-shy Dublin forwards given another chance

The decision last night by Tom Carr and his co-selectors to name the same attack that began last Saturday's drawn game for tomorrow's All-Ireland quarter-final replay with Kerry may come as a surprise to some Dublin followers.

Vinny Murphy remains on the bench despite scoring the goal that kick-started Dublin's revival after coming on as a second-half substitute last week.

Instead the Dublin selectors persist with score-shy forwards. Enda Sheehy, Colin Moran and Ian Robertson failed to score in last week's game and Jason Sherlock contributed a meagre point. He failed to get into the frame against Sligo, and neither did Moran nor Robertson.

Some discerning Dublin followers were speculating last night that the selectors will not be sticking to the team named by the time of the throw in.

DUBLIN: D Byrne; P Christie, S Ryan, C Goggins; P Curran, J Magee, P Andrews; C Whelan, D Homan; E Sheehy, J Sherlock, C Moran; D Darcy, I Robertson, D Farrell.

Westmeath (SF)

Full back David Mitchell, midfielder Rory O'Connell and full forward Martin Flanagan are injured and will be given fitness tests tomorrow, but if they come through the Westmeath team will be the same as that which lined out against Meath in the drawn match.

Team manager Luke Dempsey seems confident that all three players will come through their tests. In last Saturday's match David Hughes came on for Flanagan in the 63rd minute.

Dempsey, who guided Westmeath teams to All-Ireland success at minor and under-21 level in recent years, said that a major factor in the replay will be his team's concentration over the full length of the game.

The fade-out in the second half last week is a talking point within the county's football circles. "I saw some of our players stand off Meath players in the last quarter," said Dempsey, who has focused on the mental strengths of his players over the past few days.

WESTMEATH: C Mullin; J Keane, D Mitchell, F Murray; B Morley, D Murphy, D Healy; R O'Connnell, D O'Shaughnessy; J Fallon, P Conway, M Ennis; D Dolan, M Flanagan, G Heavin.

Meath (SF)

Sean Boylan failed to name a team last night to take on Westmeath in tomorrow's quarter-final replay in Croke Park. Hank Traynor and Donal Curtis are Boylan's main concerns on the casualty list.
