Black Bush will be contesting their second final in successive years when they take on Co Louth in the final of the Eastern District ILGU Townsend Cup at Rathfarnham next Friday (10.30 a.m.).

Beaten by Malahide in last year's final, the Meath club, with a number of the same squad on duty again, will be hoping to go one better. However, they come up against an in-form opponent. Backboned by members of the successful Eastern District Senior Cup winning squad, the Louth side will be going all out to win the double.

It will be a case of north versus south when the Clarins Autumn finals take place in Westmanstown on Monday next. All four finals sees north and south clubs in opposition. The second team final will be between Hermitage and Foxrock, the third team sees Ashbourne take on Powerscourt, while Forrest Little meet Dun Laoghaire in the fourth team final and Balbriggan oppose Kilcoole in the fifth team final.

Former International Sean Breen (Seapoint) will succeed Billy Lynch when the a.g.m of the Leinster Council Pitch and Putt is held in Navan on Sunday next (11.0.a.m.).

Greystones Golf Club lost one of its favourite sons on Sunday with the sudden death of its president Jimmy Coleshill, aged 68.

Belfast born, Jimmy was in the first year of his two-year presidency when he died at his home in Loughlinstown, Co Dublin. An engineer by profession, and a graduate of Queen's University, Belfast, he was captain of the club in 1979 and a former chairman of the Irish Small Firms Association.

Jimmy Coleshill is survived by his wife Elsie, also a member of Greystones, and daughters Linda and Angela.

All-Ireland Senior Cup winners Co Louth finished well down the field in the European Cup at the Parco de Medici Golf Club near Rome over the weekend. Won by Aalborg from Denmark with a four round total of 563, Co Louth finished on 603, some 40 shots behind the winners.

Gareth Bohill was the best of the Co Louth side in the individual event totalling 299 for his four rounds. Val Smyth finished on 310 with Barry Reddan a shot further back on 311. The individual award was won by Tien Besancenez from France.

Dundalk duo Deirdre Smyth and Marguerite O'Reilly achieved a notable honour last month when they became the first dual winners in the 36-year history of the prestigious Daily Mail foursomes.

Over 60,000 women from clubs in Britain and Ireland took part this year. As the holders, Smyth and O'Reilly were nominated to compete for Dundalk but they still had to win seven matches on home soil before advancing to the finals at the Forest of Arden course near Birmingham.

A tough schedule of four matches in two days was in store but despite having to give eight shots, they got off to a great start by winning 8 and 7 to reach the quarter-finals. Smyth and O'Reilly kept up the good form and went on to lift the trophy without even having to go to the final green.
