Breda Skerritt hit the headlines in Edenderry earlier in the year when scoring a 58 in a singles competition. In her first year of competitive golf, Skerritt has reduced her handicap from 36 to 25 and last week was named Golfer of the Year.

Another golfer of the Year is Catherine Hynes from Charleville. The local National School teacher lost another four shots this year in winning the GOY for the second time. After a winning streak earlier in the season, Hynes hit another purple patch recently which resulted in a gross win in the September singles, finished just three shots off the pace in the Mitchelstown Scratch Cup when winning the nett. A fine 43 points was followed by a 41 points to win the Golfer of the Year in a canter.
