Thirteen-man Wexford just managed to hold out against 14-strong Longford to record their second successive NFL victory following a keenly-contested and exciting game at New Ross. Laois referee Eamonn Whelan sent off three players - Longford's corner back Enda Ledwith just before half-time, Wexford's Jason Lalor for arguing with the referee in the 21st minute of the second half, and Wexford's half-back Colin Sunderland just before the final whistle. A total of six players were yellow carded. Wexford led by 1-6 to 0-6 at half-time thanks to an opportunist goal by Jason Lalor, who was very well placed when Paul Harrington's shot for a point came back off the upright.
Wexford doubled their lead in the eighth minute of the second half when Derek O'Reilly set Philip Tubridt up for a rasping shot to the net. Longford, even without their Fr Manning Gaels players, dominated the remainder of the game and were a little unlucky not to have snatched a draw in an exciting finish.
